Collection of vintage French wax seals originally used to authenticate and close letters and documents. Likely late 19th century. Each color represented a different sentiment. Red was used for business, blue for constancy, violet for sympathy, black for obituaries, ruby for lovers' letters, and green for letters from hopeful lovers! Sourced at Marché aux Puces de Paris. These collections of wax seals are especially amazing hung in a grouping of multiples. Framed in a Larson-Juhl frame with a burnished silver finish and black sides.
